Direct answer

The arithmetic mean of views across a defined set of creator content.

Context 01

Define the content set before calculating

Short-form videos, long-form videos, live streams and static posts should not be combined casually. Each format has a different distribution and audience behavior.

A reproducible metric records how many items were included, which items qualified, the observation date and whether very recent content had enough time to accumulate views.

Context 02

The mean can hide an uneven distribution

For example, five videos with 10,000, 12,000, 13,000, 15,000 and 200,000 views have a mean of 50,000 but a median of 13,000. The viral outlier changes the average without changing the middle result.

Average views becomes decision evidence only when it is compared with the campaign format, relevant content and target audience.

Context 03

Average views is not average view duration

Average views counts view events across a content set. Average view duration describes how long viewers watched, while average views per viewer describes repeat viewing by a person or account under the platform’s measurement rules.

Record the platform definition, content maturity, format and observation date. A recently published video may not have had enough time to become comparable with older content.

Do not overread this signal

Limits to keep visible.

  • 01A viral outlier can distort the arithmetic mean.
  • 02Views can have different counting rules across platforms and formats.
  • 03A high average does not establish audience fit or conversion potential.
